Nihongo Tales

Things from the stories

Every story on this site has a tote bag, a T-shirt and a sticker. The tote bag carries a real scene from the story with the line that goes with it — in Japanese, with furigana, and in English underneath. The T-shirt carries the story's main character and its name. The sticker is the character on its own, with one word from the story and its furigana.

Nothing is kept in a warehouse. Each item is printed after you order it and shipped from the printer, so it takes a little longer to arrive than a shop with shelves.

Prices are shown here in US dollars; the shop charges in the currency of the country you are in, so the number there will look different. Shipping is added at the shop — what it costs and how long it takes depend on the country you are in, and both are shown before you pay. Returns and any problem with an order are handled by the shop.

The shop opens on a different website, run for me by Fourthwall. It is called Sazanami — that is the name I publish under, and it is the same person. Nothing you do here is sent to them before you tap through.

The Tongue-Cut Sparrow したきりすずめ

Princess Kaguya かぐやひめ

Momotaro ももたろう

Urashima Taro うらしまたろう

The North Wind and the Sun きたかぜとたいよう

Issun-boshi, the One-Inch Boy いっすんぼうし

Saru Kani Gassen, The Monkey and the Crab さるかにがっせん

The Emperor's New Clothes はだかのおうさま

The site stays free whether you buy anything or not. The stories, the audio and the furigana are not going behind a paywall, and nothing here is a better version of what you already have.

A question, a request, or something you wish were here? Tell me.

Write in your own language. I never ask for your email. If enough people ask for the same thing, I make it — so requests count. If something here reads strangely in your language, that is worth telling me too. Nothing is shown publicly unless you tick the box below — and even then, I read it first before anything appears.
